We are mostly familiar with the term “modular structure”, or at least by its less popular name “prefab”. For those who need a little reminder: modular construction means “off-site construction”, or a construction method where the building or structure is built in modules in a controlled environment, so that quality can be guaranteed. This enables a consistent and standardized construction process. After manufacturing, the modules are transported to the shipyard and assembled there, leading to a faster installation/delivery.
Circular structure on the other hand, starts from the 3 R's: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Reducing the material used through efficient and necessary use, reusing products to extend their lifespan and, last but not least, recycling the used material.
Where most people are familiar with this method for building structural structures, this approach can also be used specifically for the installation of interior techniques. Think of a furniture system that integrates everything: kitchen, bathroom, heating, lighting, ventilation and electricity. Moreover, it can be used for both new buildings and renovations.
